Big Mistakes to Avoid in Video Marketing

Video marketing is very important for an online business today. However, there are many ways that a business will fail when they practice the wrong techniques. It is important to utilize video properly so you are successful with your efforts to increase website traffic.

There are many common mistakes people make when they are attempting a video ad marketing campaign. These mistakes can cost a business their success. Here are six things you should avoid when you practice video marketing.

1. Use the wrong camera. If you have a camera on your cell phone it doesn’t mean you should use it for professional purposes. The quality of the resolution and picture are very poor coming from a cell phone. Never shoot your videos from a cell phone or a digital camera. Be sure to have a high quality camera so you shoot a high quality video.

2. Shooting a video in a garage. One of the biggest mistakes is the location people choose. However, you can produce a video anywhere you want to but you must be mindful about the background you have. It would be wise to invest in a backdrop for your video marketing if you are limited on space.

3. Not editing the video. Many companies shoot a video for their video ad marketing and they don’t edit it. They shoot the video and walk away. This leaves space and extra breaks that are unnecessary. This may also cause a video to be far too long for the customer’s attention span.

4. Not marketing. When you have a video online you have to market. You can increase website traffic when you create a website page for the video and get the word out the video is ready for viewing. Who will know your video exists if you don’t practice the right methods of marketing?

5. Using the wrong person. Many video marketing ads fail because they use the wrong person in the ad. Let’s face it. You need someone who is pleasing to look at and who has a voice that is pleasing to hear. A scratchy or screechy voice will only drive customers away. Someone who looks funny will only cause customers to focus on how strange the person talking looks and not on your product. Make sure the ‘face’ of your video is someone who is nice to look at.

6. Not taking advantage of the opportunity. Video marketing is another opportunity to drive more traffic to your site. You must do everything you can with your videos. This means placing keywords in the video as an overlay. These keywords are also beneficial for search engines too. Always put your company URL in the video too.

Video marketing campaigns can go wrong in so many ways. It is important to consider many things that you should not do when you are shooting a video. These things include using a poor camera, an unattractive person, no backdrop, no editing, no marketing, and not properly taking advantage of the opportunity.

PPC Management - Magical Ads

A crucial part of succeeding in ppc management is ensuring that all of your ads are perfectly relevant to every keyword you have. “Perfectly Relevant Ads” have three very special powers that make them downright “magical”. Magical ads have the power to do three things, 1) Decrease your cost per click, 2) Get far higher ad placement, 3) Attract only super targeted traffic to your site. These three powers are exactly what thousands of advertisers seek each day but are denied because their ads simply are NOT “magical”. What makes ads magical?

Magical ads all have one thing in common; “Perfect Relevancy”. Relevancy is when the exact keyword searched on shows up in your ad three times. For instance if someone goes to Google and searches on the keyword “Accident Attorney” then the keyword “Accident Attorney” need to show up in your ad.

That way Google see’s that your ad displaying for that particular keyword is relevant to what the searcher was looking for and the searcher also sees that your ad is relevant to what he was searching for because it contains the same keyword that he typed into Google. Relevancy is the key when it comes to successful ppc management so making your ads “magical” or “magically relevant to each keyword” is crucial.

All Google ads consist of four parts; a headline, two lines of ad text, a display URL and a destination URL. Manipulation of three of these parts is crucial when it comes to making your ads magical.

As an expert in PPC management I have found that when the keyword searched on is found in three specific parts of an ad three things are going to happen: The ad will receive a lower cost per click, it will show up higher in Google and it will result in more conversion/sales (because it harvests mainly super targeted traffic). Making ads magical (100% relevant) can is a very tricky part of ppc management.

Making Your Ad Magical- Making all of your ads 100% relevant to everyone of your keywords can be very hard task in ppc management because now you have to write a specific ad for each one of your keywords! Unless you use a ppc management service like AbsolutelyDominate.com which does all of the grunt work even if you have thousands of keywords.

A perfectly relevant ad should contain the keyword in three places, once in the headline of the ad, once in the ad text, and once in the display URL. Not only will this make your ad perfectly relevant in the eyes of Google but it will also make your ad stand out among the rest because Google will automatically bold the keyword each time it is found in your ad.

Making your ads 100% relevant is a huge part of succeeding in ppc management. If you go and type in anything in Google you’ll notice that 99% of the time no one know how to make their ads 100% relevant! This is one reason why making your ads perfectly relevant is so important to you. Your ad will be head and shoulders above the rest!

Having Trouble Managing Your Adwords Campaign? Change the Headline!

A good Adword campaign starts with a good headline. A great Adword campaign starts with a great headline. And knowing how to write great headlines is a very valuable skill in any business. The failure to understand how critical this skill can be is a huge mistake that we see from both Adwords newbies and professional Adword management companies.

Good keyword research and bidding skills may get your ad shown in a top ad position when someone does a search, but if you don’t have a compelling headline, you may be wasting a lot of money. On the other hand, you can have poor ad placement, ranking near the bottom of the page, but if your headline sticks out, then you will end up “stealing” clicks from your higher-ranking competitors.

So if you don’t know how to write good headlines, where can you start? Start by looking at some of the ads that appear when you search for your keywords in Google. Now, if you are a student of mine, you already know my philosophy about the top ad position. Hint: “The top ad position is not always the place you want to be, and the company advertising there, does not necessarily know what they are doing.” But there ARE instances when the top ads will have the best headlines. Look at those ads and pay attention.

Another method that I like is to use a research tool, such as Spyfu or Keyword Spy to see which ads of a competitor have consistently been in positions #4-6. Many times you will find that your competitor affords to rank lower because they have strong headlines that out-convert higher-ranking ads. Read those headlines and learn from them as well.

Also, it may be beneficial to look OUTSIDE of your industry for Adword headline ideas. How about a real (at the time of this writing) live example?

Let’s say I am writing an ad for an attorney and need an inspiring headline. I will now search for a babysitter to get ideas. So I just typed “need a babysitter” into Google and here is an incredible idea from an ad whose headline is: “Need a Local Babysitter?” I love the word “local”. I can now use the headline “Need a Local Attorney?” or write another headline that includes the word “local”. At the time of this writing, a quick search on “need an attorney” showed no ads on the first page using the word “local.” My ad would definitely stand out!

You may be wondering, “Can I steal headlines? Is that plagiarism?” There is no rule that says you cannot use the same headline your competitor is using. But you must remember, 99% of the time the advertiser is doing SOMETHING wrong. So if you are going to copy a competitor, I suggest you copy only what works. Sure, I like to look at competitors’ ads and take notes. I even recommend starting a digital “swipe” file, where you take headlines that you really like and copy them to a document and keep adding to that file for future reference.

There are many free resources on the web that can train you to write good headlines and we will cover some great headline-writing techniques in a later article, but the most important thing is that you recognize your return for investing time into learning how to write a great headline. If you can’t afford to invest your time, then hire a copywriter who knows how to write headlines and ad copy for search marketing ads. Many Adwords management companies also have specialists who are experts in writing headlines and ad copy that can turn otherwise so-so advertising into highly successful Google Adwords campaigns.
